Do you have to register your guests with the Spanish Ministry of Interior?

Frequently asked questions
Since when is this mandatory?
Royal Decree 933/2021 is fully in force since 2 December 2024, after two postponements. It replaced the old paper guest books and the previous police reporting systems for accommodation.
I only have one holiday rental. Does it apply to me?
Yes. The obligation applies to the activity, not to its size — a single VUT has exactly the same duties as a hotel: register every guest and report them within 24 hours.
What about children?
Guests under 14 must be reported too, but their data is provided by the responsible adult, including the kinship between them. They do not sign the record.
How fast do I have to report?
Guest data must be communicated within 24 hours of check-in, and you must keep the registry (digital) for 3 years.
Does the old Guardia Civil guest book still work?
No. The old books and the previous "partes de entrada" systems were replaced by SES Hospedajes (or the regional police registries in Catalonia, the Basque Country and Navarre).
What is the "support number" of the DNI?
A code printed on the Spanish DNI (IDESP). SES requires it for Spanish ID cards — if it is missing, the Ministry rejects the whole submission batch. It is the most common rejection cause we see.
